Ideas & Inspiration…Swatches

virginia3fab3SWATCHES- I am not sure why we sometimes forget to take a trip to the fabric store for inspiration! The colors and patterns of decorator, quilting and dress fabrics are a fantastic spark of creation. Whether I am choreographing, creating for the stage, or the table, I take such joy in finding a seed of inspiration from fabrics. So, I cannot tell you how excited I was when a fellow dancer called upon me to design her tables based on fabrics her aunt had collected for the tables. The gorgeous fabrics came to me in little swatches attached to charts describing the table sizes–so organized!! And the fun began- each table got it’s own personal mix to enhance the fabrics. Asheville’s vintage china couldn’t be happier to travel to this creative Virginia wedding on the family’s beautiful estate.

lola5So look and imagine where you could find inspiration…a walk in the garden, a family heirloom, a stack of travel photos, a favorite piece of art, an era bygone, or…

Here is a peak into the workings of a custom design, created across the miles through email photos and a package full of swatches, charts and definitely thoughtful planning from a beautiful bride. A wonderful process and one of the ways we make our Asheville Vintage China for Weddings a personal experience. UpStyle your day, your way.

My collaboration at the Historic Boarding House  in Saluda made for an amazing adventure~ stunning venue, delightful, delicious caterer, Purple Onion, creative energy from Larry’s Floral and a mother of the bride bringing her effervescence to every meeting. Dupioni silk fabrics from client gave a beautiful base to the tables, then layer on vintage napkins, silverplate flatare, and gold rimmed glasses… Loved the final look of this venue, UpStyled and deluxe package to make sure every detail of the day became realized. Thanks to my lovely cohort, Kelly of Claude’s Antiques, a full day of fun.

t5T6t4Above Thompson’s Store, The Boarding House, has both beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces. Loved the porch overlooking a great deck space. And the different rooms inside for both dining and quaint rooms to escape and sip tea provided lovely places for memorabilia and gift tables.

Weddings, Wine, and other Artistic Endeavors!

Wow, we have been busy this Spring and Summer! Lots of events, so much so we are behind on our new website– still in process. But, the client is our first priority and we have had a plethora of happy ones! Please check out our Facebook page where you can find inspirational photos while we are updating our website and meantime here is a little recap…

UpStyled started March with the 2nd annual Big Day! Then went on to support the arts by donating collaborative tablescapes for the 2014 Black Mountain Art Museum and Media Arts Project fundraiser- {Re} Happening in April. Working with two other visual artists we made the magic for 185 diners and gave back to the artistic community.

May started off with a 5 course wine dinner in celebration of Cinco de Mayo with Asheville Wine Events at the lovely historic Princess Anne. Then of course weddings, weddings weddings have been on our plate! Our first wedding in May was at the stunning Homewood, then a Memorial Day weekend family farm wedding complete with handmade farm tables and chandeliers.

June brides overflowed with wedding from a Winery in Highlands NC, to private estate in Bristol VA. I loved the variety of settings from Asheville’s The Farm to Black Mountain’s Lake Tomahawk.

July brought a patriotic surprise with our lovely red, white and blue vintage china being highlighted in Fab You Bliss online! And then a stunning wedding at the Laughing Frog Sanctuary with an amazing 4 course meal with chef Mark Rosenstein at the helm.

On the horizon- Dinner in the Dahlias at the High Hampton Inn, three dinners that will feature our vintage china and then more new venues coming in September and October for our vintage china wedding tablescapes.

And, did we mention that we have found a lot new vintage treasures for the table top and beyond? So give us a call today to discover your vintage china experience in Asheville and beyond! 828-215-2410

Spring Inspiration, from garden to table…

I love the first crocuses and daffodils popping up when we are still chilled from winter and longing for the bright warm spring. The first glimpses of green, yellow and purple feel crisp and cheerful amongst the remaining brown leaves from the previous fall. What a delight to discover little treasures as the bulbs and early perennials like Lenton Rose gradually make their entrance into the garden.

Gather color inspiration from garden to table and welcome spring with a beautifully set celebration using vintage china from Asheville’s UpStyled Place Setting!

Operation Marry Me Military Buncombe County

Wedding bells are ringing in Buncombe County for Operation Marry Me Military. Wanting to give back to our active duty men and women, who sacrifice so much, UpStyled Setting is partnering up with other local professionals to provide a free wedding to a young marine and his bride to be. On Sunday November 11th Zach and Ashly will say their vows surrounded by friends and family at the Lake Tomahawk Clubhouse in Black Mountain.

Our company found out about Operation Marry Me Military via a google search prompted by our desire to give a free wedding to our military. We thought perhaps someone else was doing similar community work, and that is how we discovered Alecia Geddings, the founder of this NC organization. She had set a goal to have of all 100 counties in North Carolina participate in this contest by giving a free 50 person wedding to active military couples.

Since we found out late about the contest, we quickly got on board and recruited enough donations from local businesses to put together a wedding valued at over $18,000. The generous outpouring of time, energy and resources has been overwhelming and heart warming. Most people we asked didn’t even hesitate in donating, which has made this project an inspiration. We feel people are always able to help a cause in some way, if we all just look to our own talents we can find ways to give back. We are thrilled to be able to do what we know and love and give to those who are so deserving.

A few weeks ago UpStyled Setting met with Ashly and Zach and we so look forward to working with the generous people in Buncombe County who are helping us create a memorable occasion for this lovely couple.

Black and White and Glow All Over…

Black and White and Glow All Over

Where do we draw our inspiration? The world around us offers so many muses. I have always been a fan of black and white. All I have to do is look in my closet and at the art I have created over the years and it is evident. The versatility and options with black and white are endless.

This musing features our Asheville garden with some of  our vintage china in shades of black and white, along with the glow of silver and gold.

Asheville’s UpStyled Place Setting’s vintage china offers a variety of rental options in several styes of black and white: the country charm of ironstone, the delicacy of fine bone china patterns, the allure of contemporary graphics, and the kitch of  retro diner ware. And just imagine the combination possibilities of mixing patterns…
